The Pristines

The Pristines

The Pristines started in Pico Rivera, California, somewhere in the 1980s during the Regan/Bush era. Daisy and Jamie were children playing in their backyard, when all of a sudden, a blinding light shone above them. From the light, an omnipresent voice spoke and said, "BY THE HANDS OF ALLAH, YOU SHALL ROCK." Not knowing what that meant, the two sisters thought nothing of it and carried on with their lives.

When the girls were older they understood their childhood epiphany as society repeated history in the Bush/Cheney era. It made perfect sense to them as musicians to form a band in the face of turmoil and let fate play its course. Ignoring critics and naysayers, the two sisters combined their musical tastes and created their own meaning of 'rock.' Fate eventually led them to adopt John as their brother/second guitarist. Their message is as simple and memorable as their setup: "Nobody wants a Pristine."

I remember when I shot this video one Saturday morning.  I heard Jamie, Daisy and John play one of their song with such emotion it drew me to their studio door and I knocked and said that they had really had hit it.  I could feel that song through the walls.  I wanted to capture it so I shot this video.
