Career Corner:
Where to find great deals on instruments and equipment

Starting a band is easy, but financing it can be the tricky part. In the beginning, your band will be operating on the funds available through each member. Eventually, your group will land paying gigs and possibly sponsors, but until that time buying new instruments and equipment can be a challenge. Fortunately, there are several places to find great deals on instruments and equipment that won’t kill your budget. With a few simple tips, your band will have the instruments and equipment they need to sound like pros.

Great deals on instruments and equipment can be found in a variety of venues. Each option will have its own positives and negatives. These options include, Ebay, pawnshops, classifieds, and retailers. Great deals are available within these scenarios, if you know what your doing. Of course, the rules vary a bit depending on where you buy your instruments and equipment. However, there are some basic principles to follow regardless, which avenue you choose.

When you are ready to purchase instruments and equipment for your band do your research. This philosophy is the same no matter where you decide to buy. You will want to learn about all of the brands available and determine which is the best option for your band. Now that you know all about the brands, go to a local music store to try out the instrument or equipment. This step is crucial to a successful purchase. You need to know everything about the item you want, before you start shopping around for the best price.

The decision has been made regarding the brand and product you want. The last thing to consider before you start looking for a great deal is whether the item should be new or used. If you need instruments, you can find quality used products that can save you a bundle. Used equipment can also be purchased, but you will want to be sure it is in mint condition without any quirks or problems. Before you settle on buying new instruments and equipment, consider the cost savings of purchasing these items used.

If you have determined that used instruments or equipment will work, there are great opportunities to find some real deals on quality merchandise. The most popular places to purchase used equipment and instruments are Ebay, pawnshops, and classified ads. Pawnshops have an excellent selection and offer the benefit of trying the product at the store before you buy. This is especially important, if you are looking at used equipment. Classified ads are another way to save money. Individuals that no longer need or want the merchandise, sell these items at very reasonable prices. You can find classified ads for instruments and equipment in your local newspaper or a trade magazine.

Ebay is another great place to find deals on instruments and equipment. However, there are a few precautions you should take, when purchasing items on Ebay. It is not advisable to purchase new instruments on Ebay. Unfortunately, scam artists prey on individuals looking for a great deal. It is best to purchase items used. You will also want to avoid unrecognizable brand names. Look for the merchandise you have already decided you want. Remember, if the deal looks to good to be true, it probably is. Ebay can be a great resource, especially for equipment, so it shouldn’t be ruled out.

If you want new instruments and equipment, your local music store is an excellent resource. These venues will offer a variety of discount opportunities. You can also look online for savings, but it is suggested that you work with well-know merchants. Regardless where you purchase items for your band, it is possible to find great deals on instruments and equipment that can help you make your way to the top.
